All the photoshop tools and their functions



                          Hi welcome back all of you guys!. In previous lesson ( lesson part 3 ) we learn about photoshop user interface and its functions. From today post we are going to learn about Important Photoshop tools in toolbar as a beginner and their functions. As we know we have to learn about all the tools in toolbar but as a beginner let’s start with most important tools among them. By the way you will learn about all the tools with future lessons. Ok let’s start.

Toolbar or toolbox is the place which photoshop software holds its tools which we want while working with it. Before we started that some tools will change and miss from your software because of your photoshop version. I am using Photoshop cc 2019 version and All the tools are mention in here are in this version. So guys according to the functions these tools can be categorize in to 6 Categories.

  5. Drawing and typing tools
  6. Navigation tools


1. Move and selection tools

Used for selection , Move layers and guides in the software.


Artboard tool

This is a new feature in latest versions of photoshop use to create multiple web or UX layouts for different devices or different screen sizes.
Elliptical Marquee tool
M
Use to draw elliptical selections if you hold Shift while drawing you can select perfect circle.


Rectangle Marquee tool
M
Use to draw rectangular selections if you hold Shift while drawing you can select perfect square selection.


Single raw Marquee tool


Used to select single raw of pixels from left to right in an image.




Single column Marquee tool


Used to select single column of pixels from top to bottom in an image.


Lasso tool
L
You can draw a freeform selection by your mouse.




Polygonal Lasso tool

L
Click around an object with this tool and you can surround it with polygonal selection outline.
Magnetic Lasso tool

L
Snaps the selection outlines to the edges of the object while you selecting using mouse.
Quick selection tool

W
Let you to select the object easily by using your brush and your computer processor will do it for you. ( For better quality selection please enable “Auto Enhance” From option Bar.)
Magic Wand tool
W
Select areas with similar colors with single click.

Color replacement Tool

This tool let you to replace the color of an object with various colors.
Clone stamp tool

This is the most primary retouching tool in photoshop. It can sample pixels in one area and paste them over the pixels in another area.
Pattern stamp tool

Use to pain patterns over the image.




History brush tool

Use to paints a snapshot from earlier step in to a current state of the image.


Art history brush tool

This brush tool also does the previous brush’s job. But it is using stylized brush strokes.
Eraser Tool

Use to erase pixels permanently.
Background Eraser Tool

Use to erase similar color areas by painting over them.
Magic Eraser Tool

Can erase similar color pixels from single click.
Gradient Tool

Use to draw gradual bends with different colors.
Paint Bucket Tool

Let you to fill an object with one color from one click.
3D material Drop Tool

This tool let you to drop 3D sample material from one area to another.
Blur Tool



Use to blur areas.
Sharpen Tool



Use to sharpen areas.
Burn Tool

Use to darken areas and to add shadows for objects.

Use to smudge and smear on paints. This tool also use for creating finger paintings.
Doge Tool

Use to paint over an image and lighten that area. Very useful for creating light effects.
Sponge Tool

Use to increase or decrease color saturation on a paint.

Let you to select and create custom shapes. There are shapes built in photoshop. If you want more you can download and install them to photoshop.

Photoshop user interface


Photoshop user interface.



1. Canvas/Document window


               This is the large area which is in the middle of the photoshop software where the images are displayed. We also called this canvas and this is the place we are doing our editing. The dark area around the canvas is known as pasteboard and it has no purpose.


2. Document Tab


                 Document tab displayed at the top of the document window. This tab displays the name and file type of thye document. If we have more than one image open in our software, We can switch between them using document tab.


3.Menu Bar
                       On the top of the software we can see Menu Bar. This is the place where we find various options and commands, all grouped in to categories. There are menus like File, Layers, Edit, Image, Filter ect. For lists options and commands. In this course we will learn about all of those categories so stay tuned with our facebook page and this site.



4. Tool Bar


             Photoshop holds all of it’s tool in here. We called this Toolbar and also known as the toolbox. There are tools for moving ijmages , sacling , cropping, selecting , to add text, for painting ect.

               By the way there are hidden tools inside this tool bar. Most of the tools in the toolbar have other tools nested in with them in the same spot. To view them you have to click and hold the tool.














5. Option Bar



                 The Option Bar shows options for whichever tool you selected from the toolbar. Therefore it is directly contact with toolbar. For an example If we select the brush tool then option bar displays to select brush type, size, colour ect.

6. Search Bar

                    This is a new feature in photoshop new versions. This lets us to find tools and command in the software quickly. To use this feature you have to click on the search icon.


7. Workspace

              A workspace in photoshop is a preset collection and arrangement of the various interface element. It can control which of photoshop’s panels are displayed on the screen, along with how those panels are arranged.


8. Panels




















We can find panels at the right side of the document window.
They give us all access to all sorts of commands and options, and there are different panels for various tasks. Among them most popular panel is the Layer Panel.


9. Panel groups



By default there are only few panels are displayed. You
have to find other Panels from Window menu in menu Bar.















10. Status Bar


At the very top bottom we can find status bar. Status Bar displays all the details and properties of the image like size, profile, dimension , scale ect. You can switch between them by clicking the arrow and select them.

Starting graphic designing first step.


Starting graphic designing using photoshop.

1.Jobs related with graphic designing.
First of all let’s talk about the importance of learning graphic designing. The main reason for most of the people try to learn designing is money. Yeah! Of cause graphic designing a field that you can find thousand of dollars from working at home. To do that first you have to become a expert in this field. As we talk about our very first blog there are two basic fields in graphic designing.   1. Vector graphics.
  2. Raster graphics.
However in this course we will teach you both of these fields free. So share our link to your friends and like our facebook page and stay with us. First let’s start with raster graphic (If you don’t know what is raster graphic is please read our first blog please.)

2.How to find jobs for graphic designing.

Before we starting I will tell you how to find works for a graphic designers. This is a common question in many people’s mind if you are in curiosity to know how to earn money. Now a days there are lot of ways to find a work as a graphic designer on internet. There are lot of websites
that people give works to designers. Among all of them there are platforms for designers to work like fiver, Freelancer, Upwork. They are more trusthy and very popular.

3.Starting raster graphic designing.

First of all you have to download and install appropriate software kit. The best and most popular software for graphic designers is Adobe photoshop. But however it is not a free software So you have to buy photoshop or else you have to use a crack for it. But I do not recommend the second method. If you have nothing left to buy it then it is ok. Or else there are lot of free softwares you can use instead of photoshop like GIMP for starting your course. You can download the latest version of it from the official link free. GIMP is also simillar in lot of ways to photoshop but photoshop is very easy and handy to use.

4.Installing photoshop.
 




  1. 1.Open the Creative Cloud website. (Sign in if prompted.)
    Navigate to Creative Cloud website




  2. 2.Click Download next to the app you want to download. Your app begins to download.
    Looking for mobile apps? Click the Mobile apps tab at the top of the page. 




  3. On your desktop, double-click the downloaded file to launch the installer.
    macOS: The name of the downloaded file is _Installer.dmg. 
    Windows: The name of the downloaded file is _Set-Up.exe.




  4. Once the installer window opens, sign in to your Adobe account with your Adobe ID and password if you’re not already signed in.




  5.  Fill out the short questionnaire that opens on your screen and click Continue.




  6. 3.Click Start Installing to install your app.
    4.Once installed, your app launches automatically.

How to download more apps from the Creative Cloud website





  1. 1.Open the Creative Cloud website. (Sign in if prompted.)
    Navigate to Creative Cloud website




  2. 2.Click Install
